Feldspar
Feldspar is one of the commonly occurring minerals, Feldspars make up about 60% of the Earth’s crust, and 41% of the Earth’s continental crust by weight. Feldspar as a mineral and classify feldspars as mainly as albite, microcline, orthoclase and amortise. Sodium, potassium, and mixed feldspars can be further distinguished based on the type of alkali they contain.
The most common members of the feldspar group are the plagioclase (sodium-calcium) feldspars and the alkali (potassium-sodium) feldspars. Feldspar is a common raw material used in glassmaking, ceramics, and to some extent as a filler and extender in paint, plastics, and rubber. Its dispersion, chemical inertness, constant pH, strong resistance to abrasion, high filler loading, high refractive index, and resistance to icing are all advantages which makes it suitable in these applications.
